Excellent company. Not inexpensive but they do it right. Have used them twice for big jobs (regrading for water mitigation, new driveway, redesign of landscaping on large lot as well as a new terrace on downsize). Work people are knowledgeable, friendly and thorough. Highly recommend.

We loved working with David and his crew. Dave helped break our giant project into smaller easier to manage steps so that we can start enjoying our garden right away as well as spread out the cost over time. He came up with a game plan to give us a chance to work on a few things ourselves in order to stay on budget. His crew was professional and they are true craftsmen. We have already decided to do another project with VanZelst next spring. His approach to business is to develop long-term clients, not just one and done. He cares about his job. They are top shelf!

Van Zelst designed and installed the landscaping and hardscaping plan for our 170’ x 200’ single family residential lot in two stages in 2015 and 2016. They have been contracted to provide ongoing maintenance and upkeep pretty much since that time. They showed careful planning in the sizing and placement of the initial plantings where the various plants, bushes and trees have matured into a very pleasant visual experience. There has been little crowding and very little mortality of much of anything. We receive nothing but compliments from friends and strangers alike.

Their initial and ongoing recommendations were and are spot on and their current advice is spot on. If you want a cheap lawn service that cuts your grass and moves quickly this will not be a fit for you. If you want something that is more comprehensive and professional this is the team for you.

Had an outdoor built in grill/kitchen area and some other brick work done over the summer. I was so happy with the work! The team was extremely efficient, work was meticulous, and they showed up everyday until the project was complete. This is a great, family owned company that does top quality work, highly recommended.

I used Van Zelst for several projects including mapping and master plan for the whole yard. We executed several projects and I was satisfied. However it became clear that they were almost cookie cluttering the choices for plants and hardscaping. Plus the price charged was well above other landscapers for similar work. I then hot multiple quotes for each phase. VanZelst was always 20-50% higher. Ultimately I stopped using then entirely.

Van Zelst provided years of dedicated and professional services for me, from landscape design and hardscape phases as well as years of weekly maintenance work. Their plant material is beautiful and always guaranteed for a year, and replaced a couple things in a timely manner. I was always impressed with their work, and skills of their crew. I was never dissatisfied with them and they truly rate 5 stars. They are a bit high cost for maintenance work compared to others but do a wonderful job. Design staff and installation crews are second to none.

I hired Van Zelst nearly 10 years ago to design my front and back yard. What was patchy grass under a Norway maple was replaced with evergreen pachysandra and beautiful perennials. The back yard has a large paver patio and perimeter plantings with shrubs for privacy. I LOVE it.

After moving into our new home, I hired Van Zelst to redo all of my shrubbery beds which had quite a number of diseased, dying, or dead plants and bare ground with only weeds growing there. I dealt with David Van Zelst who listened very well to my desires for ongoing color and interest in the beds as well as my past experiences with certain types of plants and proposed a plan that addressed all of it. While they were not the least expensive proposal I received, I picked then for the job and am glad that I did. The quality and size of the plants they selected were outstanding. The neighborhood association has to review and approve the design before the replanting can occur and plant size is an issue for them. The material Van Zelst planted easily met or exceeded the requirements. The crew that did the removal and replanting was great – they were pleasant, very efficient, and did a great job cleaning the worksite up when they were done – other than the beautiful plants that were there instead of the dead ones, you would never have known they were there. The year pass as Van Zelst Inc. builds waterbed on my back yard. It is all started in late spring 2018. I was very impressed how work was done from the beginning. Brian Robinson was leading all sales and work. I have to admit, everything what he told us and promise was done, even more. Many plants died after few months later and were replaced in yearly fall. Now, a year later, I found Brian walking on my backyard checking and evaluating job and plants again. It was not cheap, but quality of work, plants, customer service worst every penny. I would recommend this company, and especially, work with Brian, he will give you a reasonable estimate and keep his word.

We had cattails appear in our drainage ditch and they were TAKING OVER. The first few were cute but they quickly got out of control. I called VanZelst and described the problem. I had looked into trying to take care of them myself but it seemed nearly impossible. With just two treatments, the cattails were GONE! VanZelst removed them and everything, and even took the time to spray some extra product on the weeds growing in some cracks of our driveway Now I can plant Pickerelweed and other interesting natives in this wet spot and the cat tails haven’t returned. Thanks so much for your excellent service on a difficult job!

I called VanZelst for some lawn maintenance. I have 4 buried downspouts which were no longer draining. They fixed the issue on time and on budget and also did some lawn rejuvenation by overseeding and did a great job prepping an are that was very damaged and using the proper equipment to slit seed ( think that’s what it’s called) the lawn

Hired Van Zelst for my fall property clean up. Working with Art Torres was a pleasure, he got the work done as late in the season as I wanted, because my property contains so many trees. The job was done very well.
